A spotlight on Edinburgh's Nok's Kitchen

Nok’s Kitchen is a delightful contemporary Asian restaurant that has quickly become a favourite among locals and visitors alike. Set in the romantic atmosphere of a 17th-century town house, in the heart of Stockbridge, Nok’s Kitchen serves up authentic traditional Thai, with a few modern fusion twists. Established with a vision to bring the rich and diverse traditions of Asian cuisine to the heart of Edinburgh, they certainly hit the nail on the head with their delivery of quality flavours.

From the outside, Nok’s is bright and inviting, with lively decorative plants, warm lighting, and big windows to let natural light flow in. Inside, take a seat at one of their plush tall chairs and take in the amount of effort and detail put into making the space a harmonious blend of elegance and comfort. Traditional Thai elements like hand-painted murals and patterned wallpaper tie in with contemporary touches, such as their wide open bar, quirky chandeliers, and fresh flowers on top the tables.

The restaurant’s ethos emphasises authenticity and innovation, ensuring that each dish not only retains its cultural roots but also offers something new to diners. Beautiful both in terms of presentation and flavour, you can’t go wrong with your order at Nok’s.

The current menu stretches over a number of pages, consisting of sections; starters, soups, curries, woks, from the grill, seafood, noodles, sides, kids, and desserts. You’ll find all your beloved classics such as pad thai, pad ka prow, massaman and green curry, tom yum hot and sour soup, prawn summer rolls, and chicken satay skewers.

If you’re looking to try something new to you though, our top picks from the menu are the Hoi Yang XO (grilled king scallops with an XO sauce,  grilled bacon, and crispy Thai basil), Khanom Jeeb (steamed pork and prawn dumplings), Pu Suay (crab meat cooked with red curry sauce and vegetables stuffed inside a crispy dumpling), Gaeng Phet Ped Yang (grilled duck red curry), and the Crying Tiger (sliced grilled 8 oz sirloin steak aged 28 days with stir-fried mushroom, black pepper, and spicy tamarind sauce served on a sizzling plate).

We highly recommend saving some room for dessert. You simply can’t go past their Thai Coconut Custard Cake – one of Thailand’s most famous desserts, made from egg, coconut milk and palm sugar, and topped with crispy shallot and vanilla ice cream. Or perhaps their deep-fried coconut ice cream topped with syrup, or the mango sticky rice made with sweetened coconut milk and fresh mango.

Between their exceptional service and top-quality Thai food at a great value, it’s no wonder Nok’s Kitchen has guests returning time and time again for their Thai food hit, as well as boasting an almost perfect 5-star rating on Dish Cult from more than 2,000 diners.

You’ll find them at 8 Gloucester St, Stockbridge, Edinburgh EH3 6EG. Open seven days a week, be sure to book your table right here.
