Little Easy

Enjoy a jug at Little Easy

It’s Wednesday, and you’re midway through the week. The weekend is so close, the tantalising invitation to sleep in only two days away. What better way to celebrate your hard work after a long three days than to hit up one of Ponsonby’s quintessential bars? With $10 cocktails from 4pm-7pm, it’s hard to resist Little Easy. You also can enjoy the view of the bustling Ponsonby Road or complement your hard-earned beverage with some tasty treats from their menu.

120 Quay Street, Auckland CBD
Take your pick of Talulah's tiki cocktails

If your desires are a tiki bar with sand, sun, and sensational alcohol but your reality is working in the CBD on a dreary day–You can reach a compromise with Talulah. Blending the tacky and the tasty–The neon lighting, tiki décor, and early noughties tunes are all part of the experience when the cocktails are $10 (from 4pm-7pm) and this good. Choose from a classic Mai Thai to one of their special house cocktails, there is a drink on Talulah’s menu that will make anyone feel like they’re lounging poolside in a Hawaiian resort.

The Mexican Café

67 Victoria Street West, Auckland CBD
Margaritas all round at The Mexican Cafe

An Auckland staple–The Mexican Café’s yellow décor cannot be missed on Victoria Street West. From 5pm-7pm, enjoy $9 margaritas and $5 house wines and tequila. Yes, you heard that right–$5 tequila. What brings The Mexican Café to the front of the pack is the fact their dishes are on the Happy Hour menu as well. With discounted nachos, tacos, quesadillas, and alcohol, it truly would be rather rude to not indulge in some post-work Mexican.

Spitting Feathers

16 Wyndham Street, Auckland CBD

On Wyndham Street, Spitting Feathers is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Queen Street. This makes the discovery of their $3 Heinekens (they’re also only $4 every other day!) and $5 house wines on Thursdays even more special, as you can ring in the weekend early with some cosy after-hours brews. Their food is not to be missed, with a trained chef in French cuisine at the helm.

Imperial House Level 1/7 Fort Lane, Auckland CBD
An Everybody's Aperol Spritz fixes even the worst day

Tucked into the deep caverns of Fort Lane’s historical buildings, Everybody’s offers an unbeatable happy hour special. From 5pm-7pm, enjoy $5 house beers and wines–One can end their working week with a well-priced drink, or start their night before heading to the nightclubs in proximity. Their alcohol is paired well with their boundary-pushing menu; think Tokyo-fried chicken and calamari to share.

The Culpeper

143-147 Princes Wharf, Auckland CBD
$5 wines at The Culpeper

Where rustic meets tropical–The Culpeper offers $5 wine and beers and $10 cocktails from 4pm-7pm every day. Situated amongst the glamorous and high-end establishments of the Viaduct, these prices are a rare, yet very welcome find. Enjoy an airy aura with harbour-side views after the long hours put in behind the desk or on the tools.

Coco’s Cantina

376 Karangahape Road, Auckland CBD

Almost as much of a K-Road icon than the Las Vegas girl, Coco’s Cantina is where you want to eat, and where you want to be seen eating. Their drinks menu isn’t too shabby either–From 5pm-7pm every day, you can imbibe yourself alongside their famed pasta to $6 house wines, pilsners and prosecco! Pair your Prosecco with a $13 Spaghetti Pomodoro to truly indulge.

Carmen Jones

382 Karangahape Road, Auckland CBD
Sangria at Carmen Jones

Carmen Jones is bohemian, eclectic and welcoming. Bringing together the African American and Mediterranean, the restaurant peeks out of a corner of K Road. From 4pm-7pm every day, enjoy $5 house wines, tap beers, sangria, and bubbles. To satisfy your hunger, try the $5 pizza slices or $7 churros in a sultry firelit atmosphere. Perfect for those lonely winter nights, Carmen Jones feels like you’ve run home in the wet and wild to your favourite home-cooked meal by your mother.
