As we adjust back into a somewhat normal routine, dining in restaurants has resurfaced with a few new regulations to follow for the health and safety of staff and diners. While we could wallow in what dining once was, we can all agree it's better to lean in and embrace our new temporary experiences.

Here are some of the best restaurants in Auckland who have taken Alert Level 2 guidelines in their stride and created some of the most unique dining experiences Aucklanders have seen in a long time.

Daisy Chang

East Auckland's Daisy Chang has taken to reinventing their well-known leather booths for Level 2, creating roofed barriers to inclose every second booth. Made out of Corflute sheets, the roofs add a touch of light-hearted fun to the seriousness of social distancing in restaurants. The coveted booths are being enjoyed by those of all ages as you're tucked away into your private little fort while keeping everyone safe and sound at the Asian street food restaurant.

Good George North Wharf

Good George has taken a leaf out of Amsterdam's book with their very own private dining glasshouses. Lining the outside of the restaurant are their private glasshouses accommodating 2-10 people, allowing diners to enjoy their evening cosy under the stars. You'll have two hours to soak up the unique dining experience with their range of gourmet comfort food and craft beers and ciders.

Miann Morningside

14 McDonald Street, Morningside

Thinking along the same creative track as Good George, Miann Morningside has also set up their own intimate glasshouses for a secluded dining experience. Set up in the lush gardens of their Miann Chocolate Factory, you'll feel a world away from home as you dine on their dessert menu in your own outdoor bubble. Accommodating 4-6 people in each of their glasshouses, you'll be well looked after with a hot drink, blankets, and take-home treats too.

Besos Latinos

H3/132 Halsey Street, Wynyard Quarter

Ceviche Bar By Besos Restaurant (Besos Latinos' Wynyard Quarter venue) has been making headlines with their peculiar take on enforcing social distance – using mannequins. The Latin-American restaurant has brought in their plastic friends to space tables out without leaving the restaurant looking too sparse. There's an array of characters among the dining tables, giving the restaurant a bit of normality and making you do a double-take.
