Aucklanders are spoilt for choice when it comes to drinking spots – especially on the shore. Whether you’re after a refreshing beer, a well-needed glass of wine, or an extravagant cocktail, this side of the bridge has it all. To find out where to have your next weekend or after-work drinks, check out the list below.

Regatta Bar & Eatery

Pina Colada from Regatta Bar & Eatery

Known for its sleek, modern interior and beach-side location, Takapuna’s Regatta Bar & Eatery is a bustling, social haven for many locals. Its wooden fittings, net-covered lights, turquoise walls, and subtle mermaid-like floors, will have you feeling like you’ve been whisked away to a relaxing island. These holiday vibes continue with a selection of ocean-themed cocktails such as Island Thyme and Beach Derby, as well as a selection of Regatta Spritz, on-tap beers, and mocktails.

The Beer Spot

54 Northcote Road, Takapuna
Tasting flight from The Beer Spot

Yes, that’s right, a spot entirely dedicated to beer. Offering a mind-blowing 40 taps of rotating craft beer, a trip to The Beer Spot is a guaranteed good time. From Pale-Ale to Ginger Beer to Passionfruit, there’s an endless supply of flavours that’ll keep you coming back for more. If it’s your first visit, or you’re just overwhelmed with choice, their paddle is a MUST. Filled with six different options, this wooden board provides you with the perfect taste test. And, of course, the experience wouldn’t be complete without some snacks. Lucky for us, the Beer Spot has a weekly rotation of food trucks, such as Ramen Takara and The White Lady. For exact dates, check out their Website or the Auckland Food Truck Finder.

Tiny Triumphs

5 Clarence Street, Devonport
Gin & Tonic from Tiny Triumphs

Tiny Triumphs has been a novel addition to Devonport since 2013. Tucked away on Clarence Street, this quaint spot still remains a hidden gem despite its increasing popularity. Depending on the hour of day, you’ll either want to cosy up on the vintage couches or boogie away to the live music. In addition to its charming ambience, locals are drawn to the on-tap Saw Mill craft beer, classic cocktails, and cheap bar meals served in traditional red oval food baskets. Soul-food at its finest!

Lab Eatery

132 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna
Lab Eatery's NYE MK51 cocktail

Leave the textbooks and safety glasses at home, as the only things that are getting mixed in this lab are alcohol and juice. Situated on Hurstmere Road, Lab Eatery offers a relaxed, modern space with a unique-beverage list, with almost every drink coming served in a laboratory-like beaker. From red lemonade to pomegranate crush to blue lolly-topped vodka, it’ll be a novel experience that you won’t forget. Even their tap-beer comes, aesthetically poured in a beaker – which means plenty of giggles as you watch the millimetres in the glass quickly go down.

Cheek & Chong

348 Hibiscus Coast Highway, Orewa
Apple Martini from Cheek & Chong

For those positioned higher up the coast, Cheek & Chong’s drinks list will help you forget about your awful commute. It’s modern, Asian-Fusion seating is brought to life through tropical greenery, low-hanging lights, vibrant patterns, and an iconic bright green sign. Matching this aesthetic, each cocktail is packed with colour, flavour, and a perfect kick. Top picks include their Chilli Margarita, Orewa Colada, and the Koh Phi Phi Iced Tea – made up of cucumber vodka, jasmine tea, rose, lemon, and apple. With almost enough fruit to make up your 5+ a day, ordering a second round would surely be the sensible thing to do, right?
