Life’s too short for bad buns and if you want to eat the softest and fluffiest cinnamon rolls of the lot (and of course you do,) check out the list to visit some of Auckland’s best.
The Pie Piper & Doornuts
Okay, we know, we know–This is a donut spot. But, bear with us because the Princess Leia cinnamon glazed scroll here is out of this galaxy. Self-proclaimed as “fit for a princess” this vegan donut scroll is dripping with cinnamon glaze and goodness.
You can’t throw a stone without hitting a Pandoro in Auckland, and that’s lucky for us seeing as they’ve got some of the best cinnamon rolls around. Hare and the Turtle
While offering everything from breakfast to lunch, cinnamon rolls are the true star of the show at Hare and the Turtle. Located on an unassuming suburban street corner, it’s hard to believe that this spot could harbour some of the most delicious buns around–But they do. Everything at Hare and the Turtle is inspired by American comfort food, and the cinnamon rolls here are a fresh take on the classic Cinnabon (but to be honest, this is better).
If you prefer a fluffier French pasty vibe to your cinnamon rolls, look no further than Petit Bocal. And the bright open space and delicious coffee makes this the perfect spot for relaxing all morning. La vie est belle!
Located in the long-standing St. Kevin’s Arcade off K’Road, Bestie Café are known for their baked goods for a reason. The cinnamon buns here go down the powdered route, with no icing in sight. It would be criminal to write an article about cinnamon rolls without including the pieces of art that are Scandibunz. Championing the hashtag #notbrioche, duo Susanne and Bobby are taking markets across Britomart, Parnell, and Takapuna (and more) by storm. You’ll have to keep up to date on their Instagram to get your bun fix, but we can promise you it’s worth it. The cinnamon rolls here are Scandinavian style, soft and aromatic with cinnamon and buttery caramel–In other words, insane.
