Have You Heard? Peach's Hot Chicken Has A New Home

Peach's Hot Chicken and Waffles

It’s been a hot Summer here in Auckland City but the guys over at Peach’s Hot Chicken certainly know how to make it even hotter. After four months of starving us of their delicious fried chicken, the Peach’s family have finally made the big move from food truck to a permanently bright and bubbly restaurant in Panmure. For those of you already familiar with Peach’s Hot Chicken, you’ll probably recognise the brains behind this operation, a young couple named Alex and Olivia. Co-owner Alex is originally from Nashville and brought with him to New Zealand that famous southern-style fried chicken. While Alex and Olivia are certainly spearheading this operation, it Alex’s Grandmother we have to thank for her delicious secret recipe (created in the 1970s) that makes this chicken so damn tasty.

The menu is small but effective, including all your food truck favourites with some new exciting additions. Your first order of business is choosing your spice level. On a scale of mild, mild plus, medium, hot to HOLY CLUCK! which one are you? With mild being described as no spice at all to holy cluck as a religious experience!! Now onto your serving size, choose between the smallest portion called the “Lil’ dark” a leg/thigh quarter at $14 to the largest, “Big White” 2x breast/ wing quarter at $19.5.

Take a friend and try the assortment of wings for the reasonable price of $16. Included with this finger-licking chicken are a homemade brioche bun, sliced pickles and a selection of sides. These sides vary from the classic creamy Mac & Cheese, baked hash browns, crispy fries, or your all-American cup of pickles.

For the loyal fans and regulars, do not fear the classic sandwiches are cemented firmly on the menu. You can still enjoy their famous “Baller Sandwich” consisting of a stylish mix of fried boneless chicken (with your choice of spice) melted cheddar cheese, coleslaw, handmade pickles and the infamous “Nashville comeback sauce” (a saucy mix of mayonnaise, chilli, ketchup, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and mustard) all combined together between two soft brioche buns. If sweet and spicy is your thing, another popular choice on the menu is the ever pleasing, “Chicken and Waffles”. This order combines a juicy boneless chicken thigh on a thick fluffy Belgian waffle with whipped garlic butter and a sweet chilli maple syrup.

And to finish off this delightful meal, if you so desire, treat yourself to dessert all created by Olivia, who is a professionally trained pastry chef. You can decide between options like the flavoursome banana custard pudding or an unbeatable key lime pie. We also recommend that alongside your meal you wash it down by sipping one of their proudly New Zealand brewed craft beers.

This joint is a crowd-pleaser complete with a quirky and colourful diner-style interior, an edgy mural by Marcus Watson and a very relaxed “seat yourself” attitude. However due to its limited space with only thirty-nine table seatings and weekend queues out the door, unfortunately, they are not taking any bookings at the moment. Although, if you have an event coming up and you want Peach’s Hot Chicken involved they are more than happy to do the catering.

If you happen to be too far away from their on-location spot in Panmure, you are in luck. This retro food truck is scheduled to be back on the road again as of February 10th delivering heavenly fried chicken in food markets all across Auckland. Check out the restaurant’s official website for updates of confirmed locations. We won’t forget to mention all chicken served at this establishment is free-range and New Zealand sourced. Who doesn’t love good ethics and quality cooking?
