The average Kiwi household throws out $644 worth of food every year – and Best Foods wants to change that.

This December, Best Foods (yes, the home of one of NZ's favourite mayo's, that Best Foods) will be travelling Auckland and Hamilton in their Leftover Lunch Truck to teach Kiwis how to utilise their leftovers and create something delicious out of our leftovers.

With New Zealanders throwing away an average of $1.17 billion annually, due to over-buying, over-cooking, and tossing leftovers, we must start to look at what we can do to reduce the waste in Aotearoa – particularly as we head into the busiest consumption month of the year.

Best Foods will be hitting Auckland's Britomart and LynnMall on December 3rd & 4th, and Hamilton's The Base on December 5th to create simple recipes using the top 10 most discarded ingredients – including bread, chicken, potatoes, and vegetables.

Try some of the best leftover dishes at the Best Foods Truck next week.

Head along to any of the Leftover Lunch Truck pitstops and try the recipes for yourself for free, as well as learning some handy tips & tricks for Christmas food waste, meaning you're gaining knowledge and a snack.

Waste happens, more often than not, due to a lack of creativity or inspiration to freshen up and change our leftovers into something a little different for lunch the next day. Which is why Best Foods has also teamed up with Kiwi creators to manufacture easy (and quick) recipes that recycle our leftover ingredients into a five-star meal.

Turn your potatoes into casserole mashed potato bread cups, your chicken, veggies and rice into cheesy chicken casserole, bread rolls into a crispy crouton salad, and any meat you have left into delicious Mexican-inspired wraps.
