The Ube Ice Cream Donut Is Back For One Day Only

Nothing brings Aucklanders together more than a limited-edition sweet treat, it's simply a fact.

One of our particular favourites has surprised us with a shock return this very weekend, giving us no other choice but to cancel our plans and camp out for the chance to get our hands on this sweet, sweet dessert.

Hapunan, a Filipino food truck and winners of the Street Kai Awards for 2020, are bringing back their famed collaboration with GrownUp Donuts to bring us the Ube Ice Cream Donut this Saturday.

Offering their usual Filipino savoury dishes such as their slow-braised beef in a peanut & annato sauce, and their abodo del diablo chicken in a creamy coconut sauce, the Ube Ice Cream Donut only appears once every few months at Hapunan, making it worth a trip to Wairau Valley to try one this weekend.

Hapunan will be trading at GrownUp Donuts Wairau Valley this Saturday.

The Ube Donut takes a fluffy plain GrownUp Donut and fills it with a generous scoop of their Filipino Purple Yam - or ube (ooh-beh) - ice cream, and with a little sprinkle of coconut flakes, you've got an Ube Ice Cream Donut.

Using only the highest quality ingredients, it's a decadent, rich treat that you won't find anywhere else. Perfect for cooling down in the New Zealand sun, and making for an unmatched snap on the gram.

The Ube Donut combines Hapunan's Sweet Yam ice cream and a GrownUp Donut.

So, where exactly can you collect your Ube from this weekend? Head to GrownUp Donuts Wairau Valley store at 171 Target Road. From 11am to 3pm (or sold out), Hapunan will be slinging Ube Donuts, as well as their full savoury menu and ice-cold drinks.

Like many, Hapunan has felt the strain over Level 3 lockdown and they're excited to be bringing us delicacies this weekend so head over to treat yourself!
