All the latest products, new openings, and exciting announcements in Aotearoa!
One of possibly the greatest new openings of the year is opening its doors tomorrow. Welcome Homeland to Westhaven, a community space to dine, cook, learn, swap & share. The visionaries behind the immaculate space are renowned Kiwi Chef, Peter Gordon, and his partner, Alastair Carruthers, who both carry years of culinary and business experience. Homeland was born out of heartache across Aotearoa after the devastations of Covid-19; particularly the effects on local growers, producers, and suppliers. Gordon and Carruthers have created a space to not only support local via the Dining Room, but to reconnect Kiwis back to their roots through food, and create a safe and welcome space to allow communities to gather and swap and share recipes with one another. Additionally, Homeland is a space to take masterclasses in cooking, so you can share your newfound wisdom with your whānau at home. Masterclasses and private events will be available to book in January 2021, but the Dining Room will be opening on Thursday 19th November. Book in now to experience highlighted local producers from across the country and the Pacific, as well as some of Peter Gordon's signature dishes including his famous Turkish Eggs with Aleppo chilli butter and Paua & Cheddar Toasted Sandwiches. Mr Morris Will See You Now
Michael Meredith has returned to Auckland’s restaurant scene with his brand new restaurant, Mr Morris, set to open this Thursday evening. Situated in the old Cafe Hanoi venue in Britomart, Michael has transformed the space into a warm, welcoming opening – with almost everything in the room made from Oak, creating a raw yet soft aesthetic. The beautiful decor shines bright while still leaving room to spotlight the menu, which champions hero ingredients and focuses more on flavour this time round. Expect to find everything from snacks and small plates to long Sunday lunches and seasonal tasting menus. An open-fire grill in the open kitchen ties everything together, while also infusing each dish with intense flavour. To top it off, Mr Morris features a private dining space (named Mrs Morris), a world-class wine list with 160 New Zealand wines, and an array of different seating options from wide booths to cushioned sofas to intimate tables hidden amongst the plants. Mr Morris adds to Michael's impressive repertoire of culinary successes, making it not one to miss – book your table for the opening week here.
